Creating a folder in Microsoft Windows

My Computer or Windows Explorer
- Open My Computer or Windows Explorer.
- Open the drive or folder in which you'd like to create the new folder; for example, the C: drive. If you do not want to create a folder in the root directory, browse to the location of your choosing.
- In Windows 10 on the Home tab, click the New folder icon. In Windows 7 and earlier on the file menu bar, select File and then Folder.
In all versions of Windows, you can also right-click with your mouse on a blank portion of the folder, select New and then Folder.
NoteIf you're using Windows 7 or earlier and do not see the file menu bar at the top of Windows Explorer, press the Alt key and it should become visible.
Windows desktop
- Navigate to the Windows desktop.
- Right-click with your mouse on any blank portion of the desktop.
- In the menu that appears (like that shown in the picture), click New and then Folder.
- A new folder appears. Type the name of the folder you want to use and then press Enter.
Create a new folder using a shortcut key
While in Windows Explorer, you can press Ctrl+Shift+N to create a new folder without using the mouse.

Creating a directory in MS-DOS and the Windows command line
TipIt is more appropriate to use 'directory' instead of 'folder' when referring to the command line.
To create a directory in MS-DOS or the Windows command line, use the md or mkdir MS-DOS command. For example, below we are creating a new directory called 'hope' in the current directory.
You can also create multiple new directories in the current directory by using the md command. In the next example, we are creating three new directories, called 'user1,' 'user2,' and 'user3,' in the current directory.
If you want to create a directory with spaces, you need to surround the directory name with quotes. Use putty to generate public key. In the example below, we are creating a directory called 'my example directory' in the current directory.
To create a directory in the parent directory, without first moving into that directory, you can use the command below. This example moves back one directory to create the 'example' directory.
To create a subdirectory in a different directory without moving into it, use a command similar to the example below, which creates a 'test' directory in the hope directory.
TipOnce a directory is created, you can use the cd command to change the directory and move into that directory.
To make a directory in another drive without moving into that drive you could use a command similar to the example below, which creates an 'example' directory on the F: drive. The drive letter 'f:' can be substituted from any drive letter.

File Manager
- Open File Manager
- Open the folder in which you'd like to place the new folder and on the menu at the top of File Manager, select File and then new folder.

Creating a folder in macOS X
Desktop folder
- Navigate to the macOS desktop.
- Right-click (tap two fingers on the mouse) any blank space on the desktop.
- Select New Folder from the drop-down menu that appears.
- Name the folder and then press Return.
Create a folder in a directory
- Open Finder and navigate to the directory in which you'd like to create the folder.
- Click on File in the upper-left corner of the screen.
- Select New Folder in the drop-down menu that appears.
- Name the folder, and then press Return.
Users may also press the shortcut key combination Command+Shift+N to create a new folder.

Description¶
Returns a random byte string that is cryptographically secure.
By default, the random byte string is generated in AWS KMS. To generate the byte string in the AWS CloudHSM cluster that is associated with a custom key store , specify the custom key store ID.

--number-of-bytes (integer)
--custom-key-store-id (string)
Generates the random byte string in the AWS CloudHSM cluster that is associated with the specified custom key store . To find the ID of a custom key store, use the DescribeCustomKeyStores operation.
--cli-input-json (string)Performs service operation based on the JSON string provided. The JSON string follows the format provided by --generate-cli-skeleton. If other arguments are provided on the command line, the CLI values will override the JSON-provided values. It is not possible to pass arbitrary binary values using a JSON-provided value as the string will be taken literally.
--generate-cli-skeleton (string)Prints a JSON skeleton to standard output without sending an API request. If provided with no value or the value input, prints a sample input JSON that can be used as an argument for --cli-input-json. If provided with the value output, it validates the command inputs and returns a sample output JSON for that command.

Examples¶
Example 1: To generate a 256-bit random number
The following generate-random example generates a 256-bit (32-byte) random number.
When you run this command, you must use the number-of-bytes parameter to specify the length of the random number in bytes.
Random Windows 10 Product Key
You don't specify a CMK when you run this command. Unless you specify a custom key store, AWS KMS generates the random number. It is not associated with any particular CMK.
In the output, the random number is in the Plaintext field.
Generate ppk file from private key. Example 2: To generate a 256-bit random number and save it to a file (Linux or macOs)
The following example uses the generate-random command to generate a 256-bit (32-byte), base64-encoded random byte string on a Linix or macOS computer. The example decodes the byte string and saves it in the ExampleRandom file.
When you run this command, you must use the number-of-bytes parameter to specify the length of the random number in bytes.
You don't specify a CMK when you run this command. Unless you specify a custom key store, AWS KMS generates the random number. It is not associated with any particular CMK.
- The --number-of-bytes parameter with a value of 32 requests a 32-byte (256-bit) string.
- The --output parameter with a value of text directs the AWS CLI to return the output as text, instead of JSON.
- The --query parameter extracts the value of the Plaintext property from the response.
- The pipe operator ( | ) sends the output of the command to the base64 utility, which decodes the extracted output.
- The redirection operator (>) saves the decoded byte string to the ExampleRandom file.aws kms generate-random --number-of-bytes 32 --output text --query Plaintext | base64 --decode > ExampleRandom
This command produces no output.
Example 3: To generate a 256-bit random number and save it to a file(Windows Command Prompt)
The following example uses the generate-random command to generate a 256-bit (32-byte), base64-encoded random byte string. The example decodes the byte string and saves it in the ExampleRandom.base64 file.
This example is the same as the previous example, except that it uses the certutil utility in Windows to base64-decode the random byte string before saving it in a file.
Generate Random Password
The first command generates the base64-encoded random byte string and saves it in a temporary file, ExampleRandom.base64. The second command uses the certutil-decode command to decode the base64-encoded byte string in the ExampleRandom.base64 file. Then, it saves the decoded byte string in the ExampleRandom file.

Output¶
Plaintext -> (blob)
The random byte string. When you use the HTTP API or the AWS CLI, the value is Base64-encoded. Otherwise, it is not Base64-encoded.
